Illuminating a Colonial Encounter

This exhibit explores the contested nature of public history by presenting two lightshows that took place in Ottawa on Sept. 19, 2013. Coinciding with the 400th anniversary of Champlain's voyages in the Ottawa Valley, the "official" and nearby "counter" lightshows demonstrate the difficulty of commemorating a colonial encounter when the legacy of that encounter itself remains contested.
