Saint Croix Island International Historic Site – Maine

Ste Croix Island is one of the earliest European settlements in North America.

•A slide show. The 12 slides of text and drawings present the historical events surrounding the disastrous attempt of the French to settle on Ste Croix Island in 1604-1605.
•Information about Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons
•The Saint Croix 1604 Traveling Trunk for primary level.

The trunks contain: booklets on the history of the island, a teacher's guide with activities and lessons, documentation about the Native Americans, and props (such as beaver pelt, French wooden cross, wooden shoe and ceramic cider mug, Passamaquoddy moccasin and birch bark container) that accompany certain activities.
Teachers can borrow the trunk or assemble their own.
